PREP ROUNDUP : Tustin Beats University to Gain a Share of First

The Tustin girls’ basketball team moved into a three-way tie for first place in the Sea View League with a 55-45 victory over University Tuesday night at Tustin High School.

Shari Needham had 23 points and 15 rebounds, making 13 of 19 free throws for Tustin (15-7, 5-2 in league), which trailed, 27-26, at halftime.

Christine Garner, who had 13 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out with seven minutes remaining, made a 40-footer at the buzzer to end the third quarter and give Tustin a 41-35 lead. Christie Loud had 17 points and Tara Wolff 13 for University (14-7, 5-2).

Tustin, University and Newport Harbor are tied for first place.

In other Sea View League girls’ basketball games:

Corona del Mar 44, Saddleback 30--Mollie Flint had 21 points and seven assists and Rosalie Kane had 11 points and 22 rebounds for visiting Corona del Mar (7-13, 2-5). Saddleback is 1-12, 0-7.

Woodbridge 56, Newport Harbor 39--Jenny Fenton scored 11 points for host Woodbridge (15-6, 4-3). Kala Ross had 12 points for Newport Harbor (13-7, 5-2).

In Angelus League girls’ basketball:

Mater Dei 49, Rosary 40--Dawn Gawronski scored 14 points for host Mater Dei (9-9, 4-2). Carolyn Chey had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Rosary (1-5 in league).

In Freeway League girls’ basketball:

Fullerton 51, Sonora 44--Sommer McLane had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Chi Catello had 15 points for visiting Fullerton (15-5, 6-1). Denise Donadio had 11 points for Sonora.

In Orange League girls’ basketball:

Brea-Olinda 112, Anaheim 19--Michelle Muckelvance and Susan Rhodabarger each had 16 points for Brea-Olinda (21-2, 7-0), the top-ranked team in Orange County.

In Pacific Coast League girls’ basketball:

Costa Mesa 82, Laguna Beach 19--Olivia DiCamilli had 23 points and 12 rebounds for host Costa Mesa (16-6, 7-0). Laguna Beach is 0-7 in league.

In Sunset League girls’ basketball:

Huntington Beach 65, Westminster 28--Tuesda Wistrick had 16 points and 19 rebounds for host Huntington Beach (12-9, 6-3).

Marina 57, Edison 49--Jessica Trippet had 22 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots and teammate Barbara Kraus added 14 points for Marina (19-3, 8-1). Katie Colclough had 15 points for Edison (9-9, 4-4).

In South Coast League girls’ basketball:

Capistrano Valley 61, San Clemente 59--Alisa Farr scored 21 points and made 11 of 12 free throws for Capistrano Valley (21-1, 7-0), the second-ranked team in the county. Mali Rohner scored 20 points for San Clemente (14-6, 5-2).

In Academy League boys’ basketball:

St. Margaret’s 89, Heritage Christian 48--Geoff Hanzlik scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds as visiting St. Margaret’s (10-6, 6-0) won its seventh consecutive game. Damian Raibon scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds for St. Margaret’s.

In Century League girls’ soccer:

Foothill 4, Santa Ana Valley 0--Kari Maeda scored twice for Foothill (3-12-1, 2-4-1). Santa Ana Valley is 4-13, 0-7.

In Freeway League girls’ soccer:

Sunny Hills 9, Buena Park 0--Heidi Gugler and Rhonda Partida each scored twice for host Sunny Hills (15-2, 6-1). Buena Park is 1-14, 0-6.

In Pacific Coast League girls’ soccer:

Trabuco Hills 3, Laguna Hills 1--All four goals came in the final 3 1/2 minutes of the match, with Kristen Lowery breaking a 1-1 tie with two minutes remaining for host Trabuco Hills (19-2-2, 7-0). The Mustangs extended their unbeaten streak to 14.

In Sea View League girls’ soccer:

Woodbridge 2, Newport Harbor 2--Morgan Ganitch and Ann-Marie Risquez scored for visiting Woodbridge (7-5-4, 3-0-4). Diane Kelsey and Meggan Fleener scored for Newport Harbor (2-2-3 in league).

In Sunset League girls’ soccer:

Edison 2, Fountain Valley 0--Christine Tyler scored two second-half goals for visiting Edison (14-4-5, 6-0-1).
