Saugus and Palmdale combined for 16 three-point baskets in Saugus’ 66-61 Golden League win on Friday. Each team made eight. Saugus’ Steve Tampus, who scored a game-high 26 points, made five three-point shots. Teammate Josh Hinrichs made three. For Palmdale, Miguel Buelna made three, Erick Stone and Stewart Gates each made two, and Nestor Hernandez made one.

Scoring: Highland forward Pharaoh Davis, a sophomore who averaged 7.9 points in the team’s first 16 games, averaged 22.3 in his next three games. This is his first season of organized basketball. . . .

Burroughs’ Gabe Colon is averaging 18.1 points through six Foothill League games, 12.7 points overall. Colon has made 15 of 34 three-point shots (44%) in league play, 20 of 68 (29%) overall. He has made 45 of 57 (79%) free throws.

Rebounding: Anthony Hampton, a 6-foot-5 transfer from Perris High, most likely will leave his mark on the Calabasas record book. The senior center has 291 rebounds through 19 games. With four games left, he is chasing Jon Drezner’s school record of 335.

Miscellaneous: Through last week’s games, the difference between first-place Bishop Diego (5-0) and last-place St. Bonaventure (0-5) in the Tri-Valley League appeared to be only a basket here, a free throw there.

Bishop Diego had won five league contests by a total of 27 points, including one 10-point victory.

Conversely, St. Bonaventure had lost five league games by a total of 25 points. The Seraphs had not been beaten by more than eight points. On Tuesday, St. Bonaventure notched its first win, defeating Moorpark, 57-52. . . .

Only three of the nine Valley Pac-8 Conference boys’ basketball teams have winning records: North Hollywood (18-1), Grant (10-6) and Sherman Oaks CES (10-8).

Streaks: Since North Hollywood edged Chatsworth, 60-58, in the championship game of the North Hollywood tournament in December, the Huskies have beaten eight opponents by an average of 30 points a game. In conference play, North Hollywood has outscored opponents, 496-265, an average margin of victory of 38.5 points.

North Hollywood (18-1, 6-0) has won 14 consecutive games since losing to Fremont in the Simi Valley tournament.

St. Bonaventure’s Jeff Wright was held scoreless in a Tri-Valley League game last week against Oak Park, ending a 2 1/2-year streak of 57 games in which he had scored. Wright, a senior, is averaging 10.9 points. . . .

Providence’s Hagop Yaglian, a 5-9 senior guard, was held scoreless for the first time in three varsity seasons in a 54-51 loss to Yeshiva last week.

Boys’ soccer: Royal has outscored its opponents, 32-1, en route to a 10-0 record in Marmonte League play. Thirteen Highlanders (15-2-1 overall) have scored goals, including goaltender Steve Hambly on a penalty kick against Channel Islands. Luke Petersen and Dan Morris lead Royal with nine goals each. Petersen, who moved from midfielder to striker at the beginning of league play, has scored seven goals in the past five games. . . .

Led by senior defender Ian Coyanes, Burroughs has shut out nine opponents and has allowed only 10 goals in 17 matches. Roberto Perez leads the Indians’ attack with 12 goals. Burroughs is 10-2-1, 3-0-1 in Foothill League play. . . .

Senior Jeff Gibbons had three goals and three assists and Oak Park outscored opponents, 11-0, in two wins last week.

Girls’ soccer: Nordhoff’s Charlee Bell, a junior striker, scored four goals last week in a pair of wins to move within one goal of Janna Morrison’s single-season school record. Morrison scored 18 in 1989. Karin Easling is second to Bell in goals with seven. Goalkeeper Tacy Franklin has seven shutouts. . . .

Freshman goaltender Michelle Aasen picked up three more shutouts last week for Alemany, giving her--and the team--16.

Girls’ basketball: Guard Martha Mejia of North Hollywood followed a two-for-19 shooting performance last Wednesday against Monroe by going nine of 12 from field last Friday en route to a career-high 21 points against Van Nuys. . . .

North Hollywood’s senior point guard, Suzi Shimoyama, has shown her versatility by averaging 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 4.5 steals in leading the Huskies to a 12-3 record, 6-0 in Valley Pac-8 play. . . .

Thousand Oaks senior forward Sasha Scardino is leading the Lancers with 165 rebounds, an average of 8.7 a game. Michelle Palmisano, the Lancers’ senior point guard, is averaging 23.5 points, five assists, and eight rebounds.
