Heart Run Expected to Attract More Than 2,000 Entrants

More than 2,000 are expected to participate in the seventh Heart Run 5K and 10K Sunday in Woodland Hills.

The event, sponsored in part by The Times’ Valley Edition, will benefit the American Heart Assn. It will begin adjacent to the Warner Center Marriott at the intersection of Califa Street and Owensmouth Avenue.

The 5K will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the 10K at 8:45. Registration will start at 6:45. Awards will be given to the top three in each age division and among heart patients and wheelchair competitors.

A Heart Walk will be held after the 5K and participants are encouraged to collect pledge money. Prizes will be awarded to the top fund-raiser.

Shannon Tuttle, a 5-foot-11 setter on the Notre Dame High girls’ volleyball team, has signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Notre Dame.

Tuttle earned second-team All-Southern Section 4-A Division honors the past two seasons and was the Mission League most valuable player this past season for the league champion Knights.

Ryan Wilson of Agoura High has been added to the elite boys’ mile field in the Sunkist Invitational on Feb. 15 at the Sports Arena.

The Charger junior is coming off a cross-country season in which he won the Southern Section Division II title, placed second in the state Division II meet and finished third in the Kinney West regional.

Wilson ran 4 minutes 22.61 seconds in the 1,600 meters as a sophomore.

Corey Ihmels of Williston High in North Dakota, Jeff Wilson of Newbury Park and Angel Martinez of San Gabriel, the first-, second- and fourth-place finishers in the Kinney national meet in December, are some of the leading entrants in the race billed as the national high school indoor championship.
