Junior middle blocker Ken Lynch, a Crespi High graduate, tied a school record with 44 kills as he led the Cal State Northridge men’s volleyball team to a 12-15, 15-12, 15-11, 15-13 victory over Hawaii in the first round of the Asics tournament at San Diego State on Friday.

The Matadors recorded a school-record 124 kills in the match, breaking the mark of 122 set in 1989 against Cal State Long Beach.

Lynch tied the mark set by Bob Samuelson in a 1989 match against George Mason.

Northridge defeated Rutgers, 15-7, 15-7, 15-6, in the nightcap, with Coley Kyman recording a team-high 18 kills and Lynch adding 15 kills.
