Because Eggleston averaged 12 rebounds as a freshman last season, Cypress Coach Denise Selbe expected her to pull down her share of boards again this season. But Eggleston surprised her coach by becoming a scoring force as well. Eggleston averaged a team-high 16.7 points and her 16.1-rebound average is among the highest in Orange County. “She’s just one of those players that seems to be where the ball is,” Selbe said. “You don’t know how she does it--she’s just there.” Eggleston, 5 feet 11 (and likely still growing, Selbe said), had 16 points and a career-high 23 rebounds in a 54-42 victory over El Dorado Thursday, which completed Cypress’ undefeated Empire League season and gave the Centurions their second consecutive league title. Eggleston also had 22 points and 14 rebounds Tuesday in a 55-31 victory over Loara.

Other top performers:

Olivia DiCamilli, who scored 28 points in Costa Mesa’s 60-42 victory over Estancia and 24 in a 76-45 victory over Laguna Hills as the Mustangs wrapped up their first league title since 1984.

Tara Moss, who made a basket at the buzzer to give Santa Margarita a 47-46 victory over Mater Dei. Moss scored 21 points and the Eagles clinched a tie for the Angelus League title, which they won with a 61-46 victory over St. Joseph.

Shari Needham, who helped Tustin to its fourth consecutive Sea View League title by scoring 25 points in the Tillers’ 60-50 victory over Newport Harbor and 18 points in their 60-38 victory over Corona del Mar.

Teresa Puskas, who scored the only goal of the championship match in the field hockey Tournament of Champions, giving Santiago a 1-0 victory over Fountain Valley and the Cavaliers their second title in three seasons.
