PREP BASKETBALL/ PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Lynwood’s Lawrence Scores 31

Jamal Lawrence scored 31 points to lead Lynwood High to an 81-64 victory over Glendale Hoover in a first-round Southern Section boys’ Division I-AA playoff game at Lynwood Friday night.
Lynwood (22-5), the top-seeded team in the division and the San Gabriel Valley League champion, trailed early in the second quarter, 23-18, but rallied to take a 43-28 lead.
Hoover was led by Dave Ulloa, who finished with 23 points, including six three-point baskets. However, Lynwood proved to be too strong and deep for the Tornadoes, who finished 12-11.
Lawrence, a 6-foot-1 senior guard who will attend Pepperdine in the fall, made four three-pointers in leading the Knights, who will play Santa Ana Valley in the second round Tuesday.
In other first round playoff action:
San Bernardino Cajon 86, Riverside Poly 52--Mack Tarver, a 6-4 junior, scored 22 points and Shaun Battle added 20 to lead the Cowboys in a Division I-A game at Cajon.
Tarver, whose cousin is UCLA sophomore Shon Tarver, helped Cajon to a 46-23 halftime lead. Battle, who will attend UC Irvine in the fall, then took over in the second half with 17 points as Cajon improved to 23-3.
Compton Dominguez 53, Inglewood 50--Larry McGlothin, a 6-foot-7 guard, led the Dons with 22 points and eight rebounds in a Division I-A game at Dominguez.
Newhall Hart 70, Huntington Beach Ocean View 66--Ali Peek made a six-foot jump shot with 15 seconds to play, and Erik Stephens added two free throws with three seconds left to give the host Indians a Division I-A playoff victory.
With 11 lead changes in the game--including eight in the fourth quarter--Hart completed a comeback after trailing, 41-29, early in the third quarter. Stephens scored 18 points and had a game-high 15 rebounds.
Hart (17-9) will play Dominguez in the second round on Tuesday.
Buena Park 60, Charter Oak 48--Angel Barrios scored 20 points, 10 in each half, and had 12 rebounds for host Buena Park in a Division II-AA game.
Buena Park (20-5) got a lift in the third quarter from Bryan Baylor’s two three-point baskets.
Fullerton 50, Chino Ayala 41--Senior center Jim Falletta scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Troy to a Division II-A playoff victory at Ayala.
Trabuco Hills 75, La Habra 57--The top-seeded Mustangs raced to a 16-point first-quarter advantage and never looked back in a Division II-A game at Trabuco Hills.
Center Gavin Vanderputten led Trabuco Hills with 20 points.
