COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Cohen’s 9th-Inning Double Sends Pierce Into Tournament Final

Jason Cohen’s run-scoring double in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday gave Pierce College a 6-5 victory over Valley in a semifinal game of the Mt. San Antonio baseball tournament.
Cohen’s hit put Pierce (7-0-1) in position to win the title today.
Sophomore Eric Raba (2-0) threw a complete game for Pierce, striking out four, walking five and yielding eight hits. Adam Pearlman and Cohen each had two hits for the Brahmas.
Pierce will play at 2 p.m. today, in the title game, against the winner of today’s 10 a.m. game between Valley and Mt. San Antonio.
If Pierce loses, a second game will be played Sunday to determine the champion.
In other baseball games:
Cal Lutheran 13, Occidental 0--Pat Norville (2-0) scattered five hits and struck out 14 to lead the host Kingsmen in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.
Cal Lutheran (6-0) collected 17 hits, including home runs by Darrell McMillin, Jay Lucas and Mike Suarez.
Merced 4, Canyons 3--Tony Sanchez capped a four-for-four performance with a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth of a first-round game of the Merced tournament.
Jon Strauss went two for four with a run batted in for the Cougars (1-6).
SOFTBALL
Canyons 5, Antelope Valley 1--The Cougars scored all of their runs in the fourth inning on four hits, three walks and a hit batter to beat Antelope Valley (1-2).
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Pierce d. Irvine Valley, 15-5, 15-8, 15-8--Rob Beard had 14 kills and Miguel Ramirez added 11 for host Pierce (4-0) in a nonconference victory.
