Calvary Chapel Repeats--For the second year in a row, Calvary Chapel won I-A team title with 148 points at at John Glenn High in Norwalk.

Sophomore Shane Valdez won at 112 pounds with a 6-4 decision over John Glenn’s Jose Enriquez with 1:08 left in sudden-death overtime. Valdez’s twin, Dane, lost Chaffey’s Tony DeSouza, 8-6, in overtime in the 119-pound group.

Junior Joey Coughran, who placed third in Southern Section finals last year, injured his back Wednesday, further aggravated the injury in the 125-pound semifinals, and opted not to wrestle Sierra Vista’s Eddie Rodriguez in the final.

Quartz Hill High finished second with 116 points, and John Glenn placed third. Glenn 135-pounder Alan Ayerdis was named the night’s outstanding wrestler in the lower weight divisions, and Santiago’s Jeremy Wilkinson, at 189, was named outstanding wrestler of the upper weight class.

Ayerdis, a senior, pinned Norwalk sophomore Fernando Rodriguez at 5:25 of his final, and Wilkinson pinned St. Bernard’s Joseph Henderson with 2:27 gone. It was Henderson’s first loss.
