Six years ago, Florida State Coach Pat Kennedy said he would have been happy just to play North Carolina.

Thursday night, No. 22 Florida State defeated No. 10 North Carolina, 110-96, in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at Tallahassee, Fla.

The 110 points equaled the most scored against North Carolina (18-6, 8-5), which committed 24 turnovers as the Tar Heels lost its third in a row.

Sam Cassell scored 25 points, Chuck Graham had 24 and Doug Edwards added 23 to help Florida State (19-8, 11-5) clinch second place in its first ACC season.

Edwards scored six points in a 15-3 run that helped the Seminoles take a 71-58 lead with 12:23 left.

Florida State swept North Carolina, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and North Carolina State this season.

Hubert Davis scored 34 points for North Carolina.

No. 7 Nevada Las Vegas 84, Fresno State 67--J.R. Rider scored 22 points as the Runnin’ Rebels (25-2, 17-0) extended their winning streak to 22 games with the Big West Conference victory over the Bulldogs (15-13, 6-10) at Fresno.

Louisville 87, No. 15 Tulane 72--Dwayne Morton scored 23 points, and Greg Minor added 14 to lead the Cardinals (17-8, 6-5) to the Metro Conference victory over the Green Wave (19-5, 7-3) at New Orleans.

No. 19 Cincinnati 70, Marquette 59--The Bearcats (21-4, 6-2) were without Coach Bob Huggins, who was serving a one-game suspension, but they used an 18-0 second-half run to clinch a Great Midwest Conference victory over the Warriors (13-12, 3-5) at Cincinnati.

Jon Barry scored 23 points as Georgia Tech (18-9, 6-7) handed Wake Forest (16-8, 7-7) an 80-61 Atlantic Coast Conference defeat at Atlanta. . . . Coach Don Haskins of Texas El Paso (21-5, 10-4) became only the 12th coach in NCAA Division I history to reach 600 victories as the Miners defeated Wyoming (14-12, 6-8), 73-72, in a Western Athletic Conference game at El Paso.

Byron Wilson scored 16 points to lead Utah (18-8, 8-6) to an 84-70 WAC victory over San Diego State (2-24, 0-14) at Salt Lake City. . . . New Mexico (16-10, 10-4) stayed tied for first place in the WAC with a 60-56 victory over Colorado State (13-14, 7-6) at Ft. Collins, Colo. . . . Brigham Young (19-6, 10-4) used a 29-12 second-half run en route to an 81-64 WAC victory over Hawaii (15-10, 8-6) at Provo, Utah.

Brooks Barnhard scored 15 points to lead San Diego (13-13, 5-8) to an 81-74 West Coast Conference victory over San Francisco (11-15, 3-10) at San Diego.
