Morningside had 11 steals, including five in the first quarter. El Dorado (18-7) struggled against the Monarchs’ aggressive defense.

“They were hot in the first half and we weren’t,” El Dorado Coach Dan Henshall said. “We made some changes in the second half but it was too late.”

El Dorado did switch to a man-to-man defense in the second half and Morningside was able to score only six points in the third quarter. El Dorado closed to within eight points but could get no closer.

Forward Tina Thompson led Morningside with 20 points and 12 rebounds and Kameisha Prewitt added 16.
