OUTLOOK

Bailey is in her first year at Santa Margarita after completing her college career as a utility infielder at Oregon State. In 1987 and 1988, she coached the junior varsity at Laguna Beach. Bailey is no stranger to the Angelus League, having played for St. Joseph, where she was a member of the 1986 Southern Section 4-A championship team. What Bailey isn’t as familiar with is her own team. Four Eagle players missed the first two weeks of practice because of their involvement with the basketball team. “I’m still not sure what everybody looks like,” Bailey said. “From what I’ve seen, though, I think we have the ability to win. We just need to get some chemistry.” Santa Margarita’s top returning player is Methot, a first-team all-league shortstop. “Michelle does it all on offense and defense,” Bailey said. Other top players back are pitchers Deligatta and Beattie, both all-league selections last year. Raimann is expected to provide solid defense at catcher, and Nolan will add versatility after the basketball season.
