HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Aragon Pitches Channel Islands to 3-1 Victory Over Alemany

Senior right-hander Angel Aragon threw a four-hitter and struck out 13 to lead host Channel Islands High to a 3-1 victory over Alemany on Saturday in a Blue Division game of the Westside baseball tournament.

Jose Gastelum went two for three with a double and drove in all three Raider runs.

In other Westside tournament games:

Sylmar 5, Harvard-Westlake 3--Jimmy Lemos’ run-scoring single in the sixth inning gave the Spartans (1-0) a 5-2 lead in a Blue Division game.

Junior right-hander John Bohman (1-0) threw a two-hitter through five innings and struck out five for Sylmar.

Saugus 10, Westchester 4--Scott Minkler went four for five, including three doubles, and drove in three runs to lead Saugus (1-0) in a Blue Division game.

Chaminade 15, L.A. Hamilton 1--Mike Andry belted two home runs and had five runs batted in, and Chaminade runners stole nine bases in a lopsided Blue Division game at Chaminade.

Montclair Prep 16, San Pedro 5--Chris Portugal and Joe Eskenazi each homered and had two hits for Montclair Prep (1-0) in a Blue Division game.

Hart 2, Taft 0--The Indians (2-0) rode pitcher Doug Distaso’s one-hitter at Taft to a second-round Red Division victory. Distaso scored the deciding run in the first inning on a single by Frank Sanchez.

Notre Dame 5, Hueneme 3--Glen Carson’s three-run double in the first inning broke the game open for the Knights (1-0) in a Red Division game.

Chatsworth 4, Canyon 3 (8 innings)--Mark Lopez singled to start a two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh and hit a two-out double to drive in the winning run in the eighth as Chatsworth (1-0) won a Red Division game at home.

Lopez was four for four with two doubles. Eddie Ramos’ two-run single with two out in the seventh sent the game into extra innings.

Camarillo 3, Venice 2--Camarillo scored three runs in the first inning without a hit to beat Venice in a Red Division game.

In other baseball games:

Garfield 11, North Hollywood 9 (9 innings)--Garfield (1-0) scored its winning runs in the top of the ninth without a hit--on two errors and two sacrifice flies--to win a Los Angeles Invitational tournament game at North Hollywood.

Moorpark 13-6, Nordhoff 1-0--Four Moorpark pitchers yielded seven hits in 14 innings as host Moorpark swept a nonleague doubleheader.

Mike Basquez and Jason Adamson combined on a one-hitter in the second game. Ken Ditto and Richard Hernandez combined on a six-hitter in the first game.

Eisenhower 6, Antelope Valley 6 (Eisenhower wins on the basis of total bases, 9-7)--Jason Kresser hit a two-run homer in the top of the sixth to boost the Antelopes into a 6-6 tie in a first-round game of the Glendora tournament.

Simi Valley 7, Banning 3--Britten Pond’s grand slam highlighted Simi Valley’s six-run seventh inning in an El Segundo tournament game.

Sophomore Bill Scheffels scattered three runs on six hits. Aaron Whitley’s two-run single tied the score, and Pond’s home run came with two out.

St. Genevieve 15-9, Littlerock 11-6--St. Genevieve swept the nonleague doubleheader behind four hits by Sergio Ramos, who has a 17-game hitting streak dating to last season. Ramos also earned a save in the first game.

Chino 10-15, Agoura 2-1--Agoura sophomore standout Brad Wright broke his right wrist while playing the outfield in the first game at Chino.

SOFTBALL

Simi Valley 8, La Reina 0--Simi Valley’s Sara Griffin pitched a no-hitter in a second-round Simi Valley tournament game.

La Reina 6, Notre Dame 0--Home runs by Shane Anderson and Val Serpico helped La Reina in a first-round Simi Valley tournament game.

Notre Dame 15, St. Bonaventure 12--Mia Guri’s two-run triple in the top of the ninth inning led Notre Dame in a Simi Valley tournament game.

Hoover 5, Palmdale 0--Hoover parlayed five walks and a single--its only hit of the game--into five runs for a first-round win in the Hart tournament. Hoover pitcher Nancy Evans (1-0) allowed one hit and struck out nine.

Hart 3, Sylmar 1--Pitcher Danielle Bragdon won for the second time on the opening day of the Hart tournament. Bragdon, who homered against St. Genevieve earlier, tripled against Sylmar.

Hart 21, St. Genevieve 1--Hart romped behind a 15-hit attack in a first-round game of the Hart tournament. Hart scored 11 runs in the first inning and nine in the second.
