MEN’S TENNIS

UC San Diego won its first match of the season with a 9-0 rout of visiting Rochester. Chris Belloli was a double winner for the Tritons in the No. 1 singles, where he turned back David Wesley, 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, he and Jeff Bethard were straight-set winners.

Chad Morse, playing in the No. 2 slot, won in straight sets in singles and in doubles, where he teamed with John Cross. UCSD is 1-3; Rochester fell to 0-2.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

University of San Diego has signed Liz Gunsaulus to a national letter of intent. Gunsaulus, a 6-foot outside hitter-middle blocker, was named to the Long Beach All-City volleyball team in 1990 and 1991, and was team captain and MVP at Millikan High last year. She averages between 15 and 20 kills a game.

TRACK

Mt. Carmel track and field standout Allison Dring announced she has committed to Arizona. Dring, the two-time defending San Diego Section champion at 400 meters, chose Arizona over UCLA.

BASEBALL

UCSD is the eighth-ranked Division III team in the nation, in the first poll of the season by the American Baseball Coaches’ Assn. The Tritons are 10-0-1.
