VALLEY ROUNDUP : Chatsworth Victors at Notre Dame

Share

Two-out, late-inning drama worked once for Notre Dame High in its Westside tournament game Monday. Twice, it seems, was asking too much.

Chatsworth center fielder Mark Lopez robbed Glen Carson of a game-winning home run with two out in the bottom of the eighth as Chatsworth won, 3-2, in a second-round game at Notre Dame.

With Chatsworth (2-0) holding a 2-1 lead in the seventh, Notre Dame pinch-hitter Erik Roth hit a two-out solo home run to send the game into extra innings. In the eighth, Chatsworth’s David Stevenson scored from third for a 3-2 lead when reliever Cesar Hernandez (0-1) balked with two out.

With a runner aboard in the bottom of the eighth, Lopez reached over Notre Dame’s newly installed fence and caught Carson’s blast for the final out.

Chatsworth scored twice in the seventh to take a 2-1 lead when Notre Dame reliever Francisco Dongo balked home a runner from third and Doug Dean followed with a run-scoring single. Jasen McConaghy had three hits for Notre Dame (1-1). Ramos and Dean each had two hits for the Chancellors.
