Howard, in his first year at Century after leading Santa Margarita to a third-place finish in the Angelus League last season, feels his new team has enough pitching and speed to grab third place and the league’s final playoff spot. “I think we can finish in the top three,” Howard said. “Laguna Hills and Trabuco Hills are the top teams in the league, but I think we can play with Costa Mesa, Estancia or Laguna Beach.” Robles, a senior, is the Centurions’ top pitcher. “She’s a power pitcher with a good array of pitches,” Howard said. Robles is good with the bat too, hitting a team-high .355 last season with 10 runs batted in. Pineda will be Robles’ battery mate after hitting .345 as a freshman. Anaya and Camacho provide the speed for Century. Third baseman Anaya hit .321 last season and stole a team-high 16 bases while shortstop Camacho hit .259 last season and stole 15 bases. Although Howard is pleased with the team’s work ethic and attitude, the Centurions may be a little too eager. “I’m happy right now because the team is being aggressive hitting the ball,” Howard said. “Maybe a bit too aggressive. They all want to go up there and take their swings. But they’re really working hard and having fun out there.”
