OUTLOOK

With virtually its entire team back from last season, University figures to challenge Woodbridge for the Sea View title. The Trojans lost only two games in league, both to the Warriors. “I really think it could be the best team we’re ever had here,” Bernal said. The Trojans lost Shareen Patton, a first-team all-league selection who is now pitching at Kent University. But Ponce, who was ineligible much of last season, should be just as strong after she recovers from minor surgery. McCracken and Jenny Whiteley, both first-team selections, are among five left-handed batters in the Trojans’ starting lineup. Bernal thinks the team will be able improve its execution of bunts and steals to help run production. The offense should be bolstered by the return of Johnson, who led the team with four home runs in 1990 but lived in Minnesota last year.
