OUTLOOK
Hachten’s goal is to bring stability back to the Edison program after recent down years. “Edison is still trying to rebuild the softball program it once had,” Hachten said. “This is a young team without an experienced pitcher, so competing at this level when the game is so dependent on pitching will be tough.” Graduation hurt the Chargers, who lost all-league players Tara Roysdon and Stephanie Rogers. Defensively, the infield appears to be Edison’s strength. Jimenez, Obade and Biefeld return, and freshman Brown will add to the team’s depth. In the outfield, Hinky and Hulbrock return, with Rayner expected to handle right field. Hitting and pitching, however, are weaknesses. Gora, who hit .200 last year, is the team’s leading returning hitter and no other lettermen hit better than .175. Hachten expects Huntington Beach, Marina and Fountain Valley to contend for the league title. “Huntington Beach is a young team with most of the same starters back as last year,” Hachten said. “Marina and Fountain Valley are always strong contenders.”
