Newport Harbor 6, La Quinta 3--Aaron McKown had a two-run double in the fifth for host Newport Harbor, which scored five runs in the inning to take a 6-1 lead. La Quinta scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to get close.

Mater Dei 5-11, Irvine 2-6--Mike McDonald struck out five in four innings to pick up the victory in the second game for host Mater Dei. Billy Blanton had a home run in the first game for the Monarchs (6-0). Irvine is 3-4.

Katella 6-2, Foothill 3-5--Kyle Evans hit a two-run homer and pitched 4 1/3 innings to earn the victory in the first game for host Katella.

Santa Ana Valley 3-13, Santa Ana 1-7--Armando Cueva earned a save in the opener and hit a two-run, inside-the-park home run in the second game for host Santa Ana Valley.

Valencia 6, Servite 3--Jason Secoda had a two-run home run in the second inning and pitched three shutout innings of relief for the victory. Mike Mebane added two hits and two RBIs for Valencia (3-2).

In nonleague softball:

Brea-Olinda 1, Rosary 0--Rosary’s Nicola Walsh pitched a no-hitter but allowed the game’s only run in the sixth inning, when she walked Kim Deck with the bases loaded to give Brea (4-2) the victory. Rosary is 4-2.

Canyon 8, La Quinta 1--Nina Lindenberg and Karen Jacobs each had three hits for host Canyon (5-3), and Jacobs pitched a complete game for the victory.

Mater Dei 4, La Habra 1--Terry Kobata singled home Jennifer Cline to highlight a two-run second inning for host Mater Dei (2-0-1). The Monarchs added two unearned runs in the third and Jennifer Clark picked up the victory. La Habra is 6-1.

Saddleback 4, Santiago 0--Emma Hernandez homered for host Saddleback (3-1) and Desi Abrego allowed only a fifth-inning single while striking out 11.

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Capistrano Valley 3, University 2--Aaron Garcia had 22 kills and Steve Thornton added 19 kills and five blocks for host Capistrano Valley (3-0), which won, 12-15, 11-15, 15-7, 15-8, 15-12.
