HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Hart’s Gore Ties Course Record for the Front 9 by Shooting 29

Jason Gore shot a seven-under-par 29, tying the course record for the front nine at Almansor Golf Course in Alhambra, to lead Hart to a 183-187 victory over San Gabriel on Thursday in a Foothill League golf match.

Gore, who recorded seven birdies and saved par on two holes, set a school record for a nine-hole score. Gore is 13 under par in three matches this week.

The senior shot a three-under 69 on Monday at Antelope Valley Country Club and a three-under 33 Wednesday at Sandpiper Golf Course in Santa Barbara. Hart is 9-0, 2-0 in league play.

BASEBALL

Crespi 7, Alemany 2--Jim Horacek was two for three and drove in three runs for Crespi (6-2, 1-1) in a Mission League game at Alemany that was called after six innings because of darkness.

Keith Evans (1-0) allowed five hits and struck out eight. He did not allow an earned run.

Quartz Hill 4, Antelope Valley 2--Chad Goodwin’s two-run single in the seventh gave Quartz Hill (5-0, 1-0) a Golden League win. Chris Grado and Goodwin each had two hits.

Javier Salinas (2-0) and Ryan Wilson combined on a two-hitter, and Wilson earned his first save.

Pasadena 5, Crescenta Valley 0--Brett Miller had two doubles in three at-bats for visiting Crescenta Valley (4-3-1, 1-1-1), but the Falcons were held to five hits in the Pacific League game.

Grant 8, Van Nuys 5--Petur Georgesson went two for three with three runs batted in and one run scored to lead the host Lancers (4-3, 2-0) to a Valley Pac-8 Conference win.

Peter Chong was two for four with a run and one RBI for Grant. Patrick Alvarado went three for three with a run for Van Nuys (3-3, 0-2).

Glendale 11, Arcadia 8--Chris Chacon was two for two with four RBIs and Jason Greenberg was three for three to lead Glendale (3-2, 1-2) in a Pacific League upset at Arcadia. The game was called after six innings because of darkness. John Lister, David Sofro, and Keith McCulloch each had two hits for Glendale.

Sophomore David Gantt (2-0) went the distance and allowed 10 hits. Arcadia is 2-1 in league play.

Verdugo Hills 4, Marshall 3--Richard Lucero was two for three with a solo home run to lead Verdugo Hills (2-3, 1-1) in a Northern League game. John Felez added two hits and Kevin Seitz (1-0) allowed two runs in 4 1/3 innings for Verdugo Hills.

Oak Park 16, Santa Paula 5--Jeff Gibbons had four hits and four RBIs to lead host Oak Park’s 16-hit attack in the nonleague game.

Gibbons had three doubles, scored two runs and stole two bases for the Eagles (4-1).

Teammate Damin Sterling was three for three with three RBIs. Eric Pryor had two hits, scored two runs, drove in another and picked up his first save.

Birmingham 7, North Hollywood 2--Casey Doherty went two for four with a double and an RBI and Irvin Castaneda was two for three with a double and a run as the Braves (2-5, 2-0) won a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

Corey Litwin pitched a four-hitter for Birmingham. Brady Bateman homered for North Hollywood.

SOFTBALL

Simi Valley 7, Westlake 0--Sara Griffin pitched a two-hitter and Kris Lufkin went two for two with three RBIs as host Simi Valley (8-1, 3-0) won a Marmonte League game.

Agoura 3, Royal 1--Megan Kenny struck out six and limited Royal to two hits and Melissa Rickert was two for three and drove in a run in a Marmonte League game at Agoura.

Crescenta Valley 3, Burbank 0--Stacy Atwood struck out nine and hit a two-run home run in the sixth for host Crescenta Valley (7-0) in a nonleague game. Crescenta Valley was limited to one hit.

Reseda 5, Verdugo Hills 4--Amy Pomrantz drove in Cari Johnston with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead host Reseda (3-1) in a nonleague game. Reliever Jamie Rebbeck pitched three innings for the victory.

Calabasas 7, Fillmore 3--Heather Siegel was three for three, including a triple, and freshman Melissa Krolik struck out five and had two hits for host Calabasas (6-1, 2-0) in a Frontier League game.

Moorpark 5, Montclair Prep 1--Cara Shea struck out 13 and Mindy Penrod was four for five to lead host Moorpark (7-0) in a nonleague game. Shea (6-0), a sophomore right-hander, allowed three hits.

BOYS’ TRACK

Alemany 64, Notre Dame 62--Terry Barnum of Alemany won the 100 meters in 10.8 seconds, the 200 in 22.0 and anchored the Indians’ 400-meter relay team to victory in the Mission League meet.

Buena 92 1/2, Rio Mesa 62 1/2, Dos Pueblos 44--Buena won 10 of the 16 events, including seven of the eight individual running events, to win the Channel League meet at Rio Mesa.

David Furst won the 100 in 11.4 and the 200 in 23.0 for Buena. Teammate Matt Creech added victories in the shotput (45-6) and the discus (141-6).

Buena (5-0, 4-0) also got victories from Lance Caldwell in the 400 (52.2) and from Rolando DeAngelis in the 800 (2:02.6).

Rio Mesa (2-2, 2-1) is the defending league champion.

GIRLS’ TRACK

Rio Mesa 83, Buena 69, Dos Pueblos 35--The host Spartans took a big step toward winning their seventh consecutive Channel League title in a triangular meet.

Ashanti Austin and Genie Van Scoy each won two events for Rio Mesa (3-1, 3-0).

Austin won the 100 in 12.9 seconds, the long jump at 16 feet 7 3/4 inches and ran the third leg for the Spartans’ 400-meter relay team, which finished second in a season-best 51.1.

Van Scoy won the shotput (31-8 1/4) and discus (107-2).

Amy Van Atta led Buena (4-1, 3-1) with victories in the 800 (2:25.9) and the 1,600 meters (5:29.6).
