Saugus Speedway will open its 53rd season of racing tonight at 7 with a program including NASCAR Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Mini Stocks and the first of eight destruction derbies scheduled for the six-month season on the one-third-mile paved oval.
The opening-night program, featuring lower-level racing divisions, marks the beginning of the track’s new alignment of divisions. This season’s Street Stock division formerly was known as the Hobby Stock division. This season’s Hobby Stocks formerly were known as Jalopies.
The newly created Pro Stock division, formerly Street Stocks, will make its debut April 4, the track’s official opening night. Sportsman and Grand American Modified division, the track’s top two classes, also begin April 4.
For the seventh consecutive year, Saugus will play host to two 100-lap NASCAR Southwest Tour events, on April 25 and Sept. 12.
The NASCAR Winston West Series, originally scheduled to visit Saugus on June 13, has been rescheduled for May 30.
