COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Orange Coast Tops Saddleback in Swimming

The Orange Coast men’s swimming team defeated Saddleback, 142-76, in an Orange Empire Conference meet Friday at Saddleback.

The victory moved OCC, the defending State champion, into first place at 5-0. Saddleback is 4-1.

Ward Johnson won the 200-yard individual and 200 butterfly as the visiting Pirates (5-0) remained undefeated. Petter Lindh took the 200 butterfly and 200 freestyle for the Gauchos (4-1).

In another Orange Empire Conference men’s meet:

Riverside 121, Rancho Santiago 106--Matt Grahn (1,000-yard freestyle, 200 backstroke), Peter Wilson (200, 500 freestyles) and Matt Maresh (50, 100 freestyles) were double winners for the visiting Dons (5-4).

In a South Coast Conference men’s double dual swim meet:

Golden West wins twice: Visiting Golden West beat host Cerritos, 81-21, and Long Beach, 63-39.

Jason Kandel won the 1,000 freestyle (10:09.73) and the 200 backstroke (1:59.30) and teammate Jason Steinhauser won the 200 freestyle (1:49.15) and the 200 butterfly (2:07.95) for Golden West.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming:

Orange Coast 162, Saddleback 115--Margaret Reilly won the 200- and 500-yard freestyles as the visiting Pirates improved to 5-0.

In a South Coast Conference men’s double dual swim meet:

Golden West wins twice: Golden West defeated Long Beach, 68-63, and host Cerritos, 82-48.

Jennifer Bloomfield won the 100 butterfly (1:08.57) and the 500 freestyle (5:35.90) and was part of the 200 freestyle relay for Golden West.

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Rancho Santiago 4, Golden West 3--Visiting Golden West rallied for three runs in the sixth to tie it, 3-3, but Rancho Santiago got one in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 lead.

Amy Lewis doubled to start the sixth for Rancho Santiago, was sacrificed to third and scored on a throwing error.
