A gunman, who fired at a police officer but missed, was holed up in a house for about 4 1/2 hours early Sunday but surrendered peacefully after a SWAT team was brought in.

Police Sgt. Jim Hudson said no one was hurt in the siege.

Hudson identified the arrested man as Juvenal Dominguez Torres, 34, of Orange. Charges against Torres, which were not immediately specified, will be filed today with the Orange County district attorney’s office, Hudson said.

The incident leading to the arrest began at 2:37 a.m. Sunday. Hudson said Orange police officers responded to the 4300 block of East Chapman Avenue following reports of shots being fired.

A man outdoors at the scene fired a shot at one of the officers who arrived to investigate. The unidentified police officer was not struck.

Hudson said the gunman then darted into a house at 4321 1/2 East Chapman and refused to come out.

After an all-night standoff at the house, police called in the department’s SWAT team at 7 a.m., and the man subsequently surrendered without incident.

About 15 other persons in the house were questioned but not arrested, Hudson said.

Police said they were unsure whose house it was or whether Torres lived there.
