HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Lipseys Lead Monte Vista to 5-2 Victory

Monte Vista’s Jeremy Lipsey hit his sixth home run of the season, and brother Ryan Lipsey made a key defensive play to lead the Monarchs to their sixth consecutive victory, 5-2, over Granite Hills in a Grossmont 3-A League opener in Spring Valley.

Jeremy Lipsey gave Monte Vista a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo homer to left. In the top of the sixth, left fielder Ryan Lipsey threw out an Eagle runner attempting to score from second on a single.

Jeremy Lipsey also had a triple and scored twice, and Shane Davidson added two hits for the Monarchs (12-7-1, 1-0). Mike Smith was two for three for Granite Hills (9-6, 0-1).

In another Grossmont 3-A game:

Grossmont 6, Mt. Miguel 4--Junior first baseman Ben Craig went two for three with three RBIs, and senior pitcher Jason Eskridge two for four with one RBI to lead top-ranked Grossmont (11-1-1, 1-0). Eskridge (5-0) and Mark Olson (fifth save) combined on a five-hitter. Sean Phillips and Jason Simpson each went two for three for Mt. Miguel (8-8, 0-1).

Grossmont 2-A League

West Hills 10, Valhalla 9--Steve Gotowala’s infield single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh drove in Billy Dase to give three-year-old West Hills (7-7-1, 1-0) a school record for victories in a season. Also for the Wolf Pack, H.K. Caldwell was two for four with two RBIs and Barry Fitgerald two for three with two runs. Courtney Arrollado was three for four with two doubles and three RBIs for Valhalla (5-10-3, 0-1).

Santana 14, El Cajon Valley 6--Shane Hobbs hit a grand slam and Mike Romo a two-run homer to power Santana (12-5-1, 1-0). Ryan Baker had a two-run homer for El Cajon Valley (6-9, 0-1).
