HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Aguilar’s 6th Home Run Powers Hart Past Burbank

John Aguilar hit his sixth home run and Doug Distaso allowed four hits in six innings as Hart High defeated visiting Burbank, 6-3, Tuesday in a Foothill League baseball game.

Aguilar’s home run gave Hart a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Indians (14-2, 7-0 in league play) added one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth before Burbank scored two unearned runs in the seventh.

Distaso (5-0) was not particularly sharp, walking five, but he struck out four. Gary Stephenson pitched the seventh for the Indians.

Steve Brenes had two of Burbank’s five hits.

In other baseball games:

Palmdale 5, Quartz Hill 4 (10 innings)--Pitcher Dan Salazar singled with one out and the bases loaded in the 10th to lead host Palmdale (8-7, 3-3) in a Golden League game.

Salazar, who pitched 6 2/3 relief innings, allowed two runs and struck out seven.

Rick Mendoza led off the 10th with a double--the game’s first extra-base hit. After a walk to Jerome Payton, a sacrifice bunt by Luis Alcaraz and an intentional walk to Ryan Herman, Salazar hit a line drive to center for his third hit and second run batted in.

Saugus 12, Burroughs Ridgecrest 2--John Maggiora scattered two runs on eight hits as Saugus (11-3-1, 5-0) pounded out 14 hits and won a Golden League game at Burroughs.

Danny Cato, who had two hits and six RBIs, hit a three-run double with two out in the fourth and Saugus clinging to a 3-2 lead.

Monroe 7, Birmingham 4--Christian Ascencio was two for three with two RBIs and Pat Alvarado was two for three for Monroe (7-2 in league play) in a Mid-Valley League game.

Irvin Castaneda was two for four with two RBIs and Tomas Frias was two for four with a run for Birmingham (2-12, 2-7).

Montclair Prep 14, Western Christian 3--Brad Fullmer, Mike Gursey and Joe Eskenazi each hit two-run home runs for host Montclair Prep (11-5-1, 4-0) in an Alpha League game. Steve Cain (3-2) gave up three runs and seven hits in six innings.

Fullmer’s seventh home run gave Montclair Prep a 2-0 lead in the first. Gursey and Eskenazi each hit their second home runs, Gursey in the three-run fifth and Eskenazi in the four-run sixth.

Canyon 9, Antelope Valley 8 (eight innings)--Jamie Ray’s single drove in Josh Malmack, who had doubled, to lift the Cowboys (6-9, 4-3) to a Golden League victory at Antelope Valley. Adam Vance was four for four with a double and two RBIs for Canyon.

Grant 5, North Hollywood 2--Peter Chong went two for two with two RBIs to lead the host Lancers (10-4, 8-1) to a Valley Pac-8 win. Grant’s Tony Kuper struck out six and scattered six hits and six walks to earn the win. Ted Liotopolous was three for three for North Hollywood (2-12, 1-7).

Van Nuys 14, Canoga Park 2--Refugio Pulido was four for five with a home run, a double and four RBIs to lead the Wolves (7-6, 4-5) in a Valley Pac-8 game.

Alex Alvarenga also was four for five with two runs scored and an RBI. Pitcher Benjamin Navarette struck out seven, gave up four hits and did not walk a batter.

Wilson 4, Verdugo Hills 3--Steve Hernandez was two for three and had two RBIs to lead Verdugo Hills in a Northern League game.

John Feliz added two hits and Ron Battaglia drove in one run for Verdugo Hills (7-5, 6-3).

Buena 7, Dos Pueblos 3--Four players each had two hits to lead Buena (9-3, 5-2) in a Channel League game at Dos Pueblos.

Matt Ertman, Robert Simpson, Scott Baxter and Brandon Knight each had two hits for Buena. Knight (2-0), a junior right-hander, went the distance, striking out four and walking three.

Bishop Diego 12, St. Bonaventure 7--Gino Nucci had two hits and drove in two runs for St. Bonaventure in a Tri-Valley League game at home.

Pat Marasco had a three-run triple in the second and John McNamara hit his fifth home run for St. Bonaventure (6-8, 2-5), which committed six errors.

Fillmore 17, Nordhoff 3--Ryan Satterfield had two hits and drove in three runs to lead host Fillmore in a Frontier League game.

Phillip Chessani and Jerry Sandoval each added two hits for Fillmore (8-3, 4-2).

Village Christian 2, Marshall Fundamental 0--Brett Borden, Willie Morrow and Jeff Deal slammed consecutive doubles in the sixth to score both Village Christian runs in an Alpha League game.

Faith Baptist 5, Brentwood 3--Freshman Judd Granzow hit a three-run homer in the third to lead Faith Baptist in a Delphic League game at home.

L.A. Baptist 9, Maranatha 2--Shortstop Tim Shoemake was four for four to lead host L.A. Baptist (8-8, 1-3) in an Alpha League game. Brad Imbler had three hits and Jason Baumsteiger added two.

Santa Paula 5, Calabasas 4--Danny Alcantar’s two-run single in the sixth tied the score, 4-4, and he later scored on Joseph Jauregui’s single to lead host Santa Paula (7-9, 4-2) in a Frontier League game. Alcantar (2-3), the starting shortstop, came on to pitch in relief in the fifth with the bases loaded and none out and held Calabasas to one run.

Campbell Hall 14, Buckley 13--Blake Levin singled home Joe Rainey to cap a five-run Viking fifth in a Delphic League game. Levin was four for four with a double, a triple and six RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Hoover 1, Crescenta Valley 0 (12 innings)--Nancy Evans pitched a no-hitter and recorded 22 strikeouts to lead the visiting Tornadoes (13-2, 2-0) to a Pacific League win. It was Evans’ first no-hitter after nine one-hitters.

Stacy Atwood of Crescenta Valley (13-2, 2-1) struck out 13.

Saugus 2, Burroughs Ridgecrest 0--Kerry Coudry allowed two hits and struck out eight for Saugus (17-1, 3-0) in a Golden League game.

Thousand Oaks 3, Agoura 2--Carrie Russell pitched a complete game and also had two hits and scored one run for host Thousand Oaks (8-4, 6-1) in a Marmonte League game.

Westlake 7, Newbury Park 6--Kelly Murphy pitched a complete game and Kristi Craft drove in three runs with two doubles as host Westlake (9-5, 4-3) won a Marmonte League game.

Simi Valley 1, Camarillo 0 (eight innings)--Jessica Cunningham singled home Amy Powell with two out in the eighth to win a Marmonte League game.

Hart 29, Alhambra 3--Hart (8-4, 3-0) scored 10 runs in both the third and fifth innings in a Foothill League rout at home. Jamie Dean was five for five and drove in four runs, Lauren Fenstmaker had four hits and five RBIs and Kim Neighbors had three hits and five RBIs.

Calabasas 9, Santa Paula 7--Stephanie Kates had three hits to lead Calabasas (10-2, 6-1) in a Foothill League game at home.

Burbank 13, Schurr 0--Michelle Pierce (6-4) threw a two-hitter, struck out 13, walked none and added three hits to lead Burbank (10-7, 2-1) in a Foothill League game at Schurr.

Antelope Valley 5, Canyon 3--Marianne Winchester did not allow an earned run and gave up only five hits, but host Canyon committed 10 errors in a Golden League game. It was Canyon’s first loss at home in two years.

Moorpark 4, Oak Park 0--Sophomore Cara Shea struck out 10, walked one and allowed one hit as Moorpark (14-3, 3-0) won a Tri-Valley League game.

BOYS’ TRACK

Ventura 124, Rio Mesa 64 1/2, Santa Barbara 9 1/2--Zaylore Stout won four events for Ventura as the Cougars clinched their first boys’ varsity league title since 1962 in the Channel League meet at Santa Barbara City College.

Stout’s best effort came in the high jump in which he set a personal best of 6 feet 8 inches. He also won the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.7 seconds, the 300 intermediates in 41.2, and the triple jump with a leap of 42-4 1/2.

Devon Passno and Justin Werth were double winners for Ventura (8-0, 7-0 in league). Passno won the 100 (11.2) and 400 (52.2), and ran the first leg on the victorious 400 relay team (44.7).

Werth won the shotput (45-4 1/4) and the discus (168-3).

Quartz Hill 95, Saugus 41--Ramon Banks and Bryan Frazier won two events each for Quartz Hill in the Golden League meet at College of the Canyons.

The win gave the Rebels (4-0) at least a share of their first Golden League title since 1980. They can win it outright with a win over Antelope Valley on Thursday.

Banks won the 100 meters in 11.2 seconds and the 200 in 22.9. Frazier placed first in the long jump (19 feet 9 inches) and the triple jump (43-4 1/2).

GIRLS’ TRACK

Rio Mesa 101, Ventura 55, Santa Barbara 21--Superior depth keyed Rio Mesa’s seventh consecutive Channel League title in the meet at Santa Barbara City College.

Ashanti Austin, Andrea Wasden and Genie Van Scoy had the top marks for Rio Mesa (7-0). Austin won the 100 meters in 12.6, Wasden took the 100 low hurdles in 15.1, and Van Scoy placed first in the discus with a throw of 113-6.

Quartz Hill 89, Saugus 38--The visiting Rebels clinched a share of their fourth consecutive Golden League title in the meet at College of the Canyons.

Cheaza Figueroa won four events for Quartz Hill (4-0).
