A day earlier, San Gabriel came up short in its bid to improve its national-leading mark of 10:18.18 in the boys’ distance medley despite a personal-best 4:11.6 by Martinez in his 1,600-meter leg. The Matadors finished third in 10:24.57. San Pasqual won in 10.19.73 and Palos Verdes Peninsula was second in 10:20.96.
