PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Bakke’s Bat, Ortega’s Arm Carry La Habra Past Sunny Hills

Stefanie Bakke went three for four and drove in three runs in support of Dani Ortega’s two-hitter as visiting La Habra defeated Sunny Hills, 4-1, Thursday, to take over first place in the Freeway League.

Ortega (16-2) struck out seven and allowed only a first-inning run, which came in on a wild pitch. La Habra (16-2, 4-0 in league) tied the score in the third and scored three times in the seventh.

The Highlanders finished with 10 hits.

In another Freeway League game:

Fullerton 6, Troy 1--Amy Freilich scored four runs, had three hits and stole three bases for the visiting Indians (11-9, 3-1).

Amy Thomas scored on a passed ball for Troy (11-7, 1-3).

In the Century League:

El Modena 2, Orange 0--Kristi Bolle and Alexis Beckman each had RBI singles in the top of the seventh for Vanguards (12-5, 4-0). Bolle was four for four, and Beckman pitched a four-hitter, striking out six.

Foothill 4, Villa Park 1--Foothill got four of its five hits in a four-run ninth inning as Melissa Wielandt, Amy Tessman, Kelley() Green and Julie Metzger each had singles for the Knights (15-7, 4-0). Pitcher Leeann() Gonzalez struck out nine and walked one for the victory.

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 5, Esperanza 2--Briana() Yoshina was two for three with an RBI, and Lindsey Bishop’s fifth-inning double drove in Andrea Murray with another run for the host Hawks (11-6, 2-2).

Jessica Franck scored both runs for Esperanza (4-12, 2-2).

Katella 2, Loara 0--Tammy Lohmann() scored from third on a passed ball, then Melissa Benbow also scored on a wild return throw to home plate for the game’s only two runs. Kelsi() Armbruster pitched a four-hitter for visiting Katella.

Los Alamitos 3, Cypress 1--Caroline Dolan struck out eight and Los Alamitos (11-4-1, 4-0) took advantage of three Cypress errors in the third inning to score three runs.

Cypress (13-4, 2-2) loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the seventh but couldn’t score after Dolan struck out the next two batters and got the last on a grounder to second.

In the Garden Grove League:

Bolsa Grande 5, Santiago 0--Vivan Alvardo pitched a two-hitter and Karen Nichols drove in four runs for the visiting Matadors (7-8, 3-5).

Kennedy 2, Garden Grove 1--Laurie Fritz had a sixth-inning single to drive in Lisa Pitt with the winning run for the host Fighting Irish (14-5, 6-2).

La Quinta 14, Los Amigos 2--Linda Rodriguez hit a grand slam in the second to highlight a seven-run inning for host La Quinta (5-2-1 in league).

Rancho Alamitos 1, Pacifica 0 (11 innings)--Jennifer Robinson singled, then scored on an error for the Vaqueros (10-7-1, 5-3).

The game featured two of the league’s top pitchers, Pacifica’s Jennifer Surface, who allowed only three hits, and Rancho Alamitos’ Destiny Mollison, who allowed only four.

In the Olympic League:

Ayala 7, Capistrano Valley Christian 3--Ayala improved to 6-1 in league play with the victory. Capistrano Valley Christian is 2-9 and 2-7.

Whittier Christian 8, Ontario Christian 0--Debbie Goddu (11-1) pitched a two-hitter and Kristy Washburn went for for four, scoring twice and driving in a run for the host Heralds (11-2, 6-1).

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 5, Valencia 1--Andrea Schuette struck out five and allowed only an unearned run for the Wildcats. First baseman Julie Baker had two hits and two RBIs for host Brea-Olinda (13-4, 4-0).

Western 4, Magnolia 0--Beth Queypo was three for four with an RBI and struck out eight for Western (9-8, 4-0). Sonya Fellows and Louisa De la Ossa both went two for three with an RBI for the Pioneers.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Century 17, Laguna Beach 7--Debbie Lomeli hit for the cycle, driving in four runs for the host Centurions (2-8, 2-2).

Laguna Hills 16, Costa Mesa 0--Jennifer Milo had two hits, four RBIs and three runs scored for visiting Laguna Hills (10-7-1, 4-0).

Trabuco Hills 11, Estancia 0--Christy Lunceford drove in two runs for the host Mustangs (10-8, 3-1).
