School: Mission Viejo High

Sport: Baseball

Position: Catcher

Class: Junior

Not many baserunners have received passing marks when they’ve tested Carr’s arm from behind the plate. This season, 29 of the 41 who have tried have been sent back to the dugout, disappointed. In the past six games the toll is even more impressive, with Carr throwing out each of the eight who attempted to steal. “There’s nobody in the county who throws better than he does,” Mission Viejo Coach Ron Drake said. “And he’s only a junior.” Last week, however, it was Carr’s work with the bat that helped keep Mission Viejo in the running for a playoff berth in the South Coast League. He hit a home run and drove in four runs in each of two victories over Dana Hills. In the first game, he singled in the sixth to drive in the winning run in a 7-6 victory; in the second, his grand slam tied the score at 4-4 and the Diablos went on to win, 8-4.

Other top performers:

Corey Dean-Yeager was seven for eight with a homer in Anaheim’s 10-7 loss to Brea-Olinda and a 12-8 victory over Western.

Aaron Garcia, Capistrano Valley volleyball player, who had 20 and 13 kills in victories over San Clemente and El Toro.
