BASEBALL: DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Make-Up Games Will Be Doubleheaders

Share

Despite the blessing of Dodger management and the National League office, it appears the Dodgers and Expos will not make up one of their three postponed games on July 13, the first day of the All-Star break.

After both teams met with Players’ Assn. chief Donald Fehr in Montreal Tuesday, it was revealed that the Expos had voted unanimously against playing on July 13 because it would virtually wipe out their three-day break.

Because of a clause in the Basic Agreement, teams cannot play during the break unless players from both teams agree.

Both teams told Fehr that they would rather play two doubleheaders in Los Angeles and hold the third game until the end of the season, playing it only if needed.

Darryl Strawberry said he is planning on playing today after missing four games with a strained back and viral infection, but Eric Davis could miss another game or two. After straining his right hamstring on the wet field at Shea Stadium Friday, Davis was a late scratch from the starting lineup Monday and afterward said he is unsure of his status. . . . Mike Scioscia returned to the lineup Monday after missing most of four games with a strained back, and had one single in five at-bats.

Jay Howell told the Dodgers he would like to throw one more time before returning from the disabled list, meaning he probably won’t rejoin the roster until this weekend. . . . Although Kal Daniels is eligible to come off the disabled list today, and Juan Samuel is eligible Wednesday, neither player will be ready until at least the next home stand, which runs from May 15-24.
