HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Mira Mesa’s Hause Fires Second No-Hitter

Share

City Eastern League teams are beginning to realize what it means when Mira Mesa High pitcher Brendan Hause has good mechanics: No-hitter.

Hause, a senior left-hander, threw his second no-hitter this season against a league opponent, a 12-0 victory over host Serra. Hause’s no-hitter was a bonus for the Marauders, who got their 20th victory and clinched the league title for the second year in a row--something they’ve never done before.

“I had the same type stuff (as his perfect game against Point Loma two weeks ago),” said Hause (10-1), who struck out 14 and walked three, all on 3-2 pitches. “I had good mechanics and my fastball (clocked at 85 m.p.h. by scouts) was good. I got ahead of most of the hitters, and that helped.”

Mira Mesa is the section 3-A division’s two-time defending champion, but consecutive league titles is a first for the Marauders.

“This is the first time we’ve won it back-to-back, even though we’re 110-30 over the last five seasons,” Marauders Coach Mike Prosser said. “They’ve done a real good job keeping their focus this year. It’s something they feel they have to do now, to be as successful as the previous teams.

“Serra has some good hitters and the last time we played them they beat us, 6-3, at our place. Coming back to beat Serra was definitely in the picture for us. We were focused in the ballgame, and Brendan pretty much overpowered them. He had his way with them.”

Karl Goins, Brian Wilson and David Lundberg accounted for five of Mira Mesa’s nine hits. The Marauders are 20-5, 9-1; Serra is 10-14, 5-5.
