COMMUNITY COLLEGE STATE SOFTBALL PLAYOFFS : Orange Coast Wins First Game, Loses Second

Orange Coast won its first game and lost the second Friday in the first day of the State softball tournament in Sacramento.

Orange Coast beat San Mateo, 4-1, in the opening round, then lost to Sacramento City, 2-0.

Sacramento (52-3), the top-ranked team in the state, scored two unearned runs in the second inning and pitcher Kim Gonzalez (22-1) controlled the game from there. She allowed two hits, one in the first and another in the seventh. She retired 16 in a row at one point.

Alisha Nelson (24-7) took the loss for OCC (34-10), which plays the winner of the Ohlone-Long Beach game at 1 p.m. today.

In other tournament games:

Orange Coast 4, San Mateo 1--Nelson (24-6) allowed a run in the second that stopped her scoreless inning streak at 39 overall and 22 in the playoffs. Shannon Ebert had two hits for OCC.

Sacramento City 6, Cypress 2--Nikkanni Andrews had a two-run homer in the second for Cypress, the defending State champion, but that was the only offense for Cypress (36-13). Amy Windmiller (22-0) pitched a six-hitter with eight strikeouts. The runs she allowed were the first earned runs she has given up this season.
