Hawaii Edges SDSU in 10th

San Diego State was victimized by six double plays and lost to Hawaii, 1-0, in 10 innings, Friday night in the second round of the Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament.

The Aztecs (39-17) played New Mexico in an elimination game late Friday. A victory in that contest would mean they will play Hawaii at 4 p.m. today, and must beat the Rainbows then and again at 7 to win the WAC championship.

Hawaii scored in the bottom of the 10th when Randy Vollmer tripled with one out, and Tyler Sheff singled him in after two Rainbows were intentionally walked.

Bill Blanchette (7-3) went the distance for 11th-ranked Hawaii (44-11), allowing nine hits, four to Rick Page. The Aztecs had two runners thrown out at home. Brad Gennaro was thrown out trying to score on a Tony Enomoto fly ball in the second, and Greg Quam was caught trying to steal home on a double steal in the fourth inning.

Rick Navarro went the distance for SDSU, losing his first game after nine victories.
