PREP ROUNDUP : Dana Hills Shuts Down Millikan in Tennis, 18-0

Dana Hills, an at-large entry in the Southern Section Division 4-A tennis playoffs, shut out Long Beach Millikan, 18-0, in the first round Tuesday in Long Beach.

The Dolphins (12-8) got sweeps in singles from Jeremy Driscoll, Steen Lundblad and Justin Rimel.

Dana Hills, which entered the playoffs as the fourth team from the South Coast League, will play host to third-seeded University in the second round Thursday.

Millikan, the second-place team from the Bay League, finishes 15-6.

University 16, Mater Dei 2--John Bowerbank swept his singles sets for third-seeded University (17-2). Mater Dei finished 8-8.

Marina 15, Lakewood 3--Danny Marks and Ryan Lipson swept at No. 3 doubles, 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, for the host Vikings (20-1), who meet Mission Viejo Thursday.

Mission Viejo 13, Servite 5--No. 3 singles Jeff Holroyd swept his sets for the Diablos (16-4). Fares Azzoni and Brian Gruner also swept in doubles for Mission Viejo.

Corona del Mar 16, Huntington Beach 2--David Bain didn’t lose a game in sweeping his singles sets for the fourth-seeded Sea Kings (16-4).

El Toro 13, Foothill 5--Chris Brown swept at No. 1 singles and Alex Brown and Florian Roth swept at No. 1 doubles for the Chargers (14-5), who meet Santa Margarita Thursday at a site to be determined.

Santa Margarita 12, Fountain Valley 6--Kevin Cimini and Kent Policky swept at No. 2 doubles for host Santa Margarita (16-4). Fountain Valley finished 10-10.

In 3-A boys’ tennis:

Sunny Hills 13, Corona Centennial 5--Jason Nevadomsky didn’t lose a game in sweeping his singles sets for defending champion Sunny Hills (17-3). The Lancers lost only two games while sweeping their singles sets.

Laguna Beach 16, Garden Grove 2--Julian Zajfen swept at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, for the host Artists (14-7). Garden Grove finished 16-5.

Esperanza 14, Montebello Schurr 4--Mike Hammer swept at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1, 6-1, for the second-seeded host Aztecs (19-0). Esperanza plays Palm Desert Thursday.

Trabuco Hills 10, Corona 8--Mads Nyholm-Larsen swept at No. 1 singles for visiting Trabuco Hills (18-3), which gave Corona (20-1) its first loss. The Mustangs play Crescenta Valley Thursday.

In 2-A boys’ tennis:

Western 16, San Dimas 2--James Yu won his singles sets, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, for Western (15-3).

Valencia 17, Whittier La Serna 1--Robert Bae and Ron Lacuata didn’t lose a game while sweeping their doubles sets for Valencia (18-2).
