Mt. Carmel 3, Torrey Pines 1--Jason Corlett was two for two with two RBIs and Mario Israel struck out six for Mt. Carmel (11-15, 5-8).

Rancho Buena Vista 6, Orange Glen 3--Travis Wilson stole two bases, went three for four and drove in three runs for RBV (15-10-1, 9-4), as the Longhorns came back with five runs in the seventh.

Fallbrook 3, San Dieguito 2--Adam Hreaor hit a one-run homer and Robert Pack scattered five hits and struck out five for Fallbrook (12-11-1, 6-7). San Dieguito fell to 10-14-1, 4-9.

Avocado League

San Marcos 17, El Camino 8--San Marcos (13-10, 10-3) hit for the cycle in home runs with a one-run shot from Tony Castaneda (his first), a two-run homer from Ryan Gallego (his fourth), a three-run home run from Kyle Scott (his fourth), and a grand slam from senior Curt Gallego in the six-run fourth, which gave the Knights a 11-8 lead. Herman Gordon slammed a three-run homer in El Camino’s seven-run first. The loss hurts El Camino (11-14, 7-6) in their attempt to reach the playoffs in the school’s history. Denny McAdams shutout the Wildcats in last three innings to pick up the save.

Oceanside 9, Rancho Bernardo 6--Oceanside knocked around Rancho Bernardo starter Mike Walter around for seven runs and six hits in one-plus innings. Walter (7-5) entered the game with an ERA of 0.79. Forrest Belew had the big blow in the Pirates’ five-run first, a bases-loaded double. Chris Warner had two hits and an RBI, Aaron Miller had a triple and a single and scored twice and Keith Humerickhouse had two hits, two stolen bases and an RBI for Oceanside (13-13-2, 4-9). John Portugal (6-4) had six strikeouts in six-plus innings and picked up the victory. James Jones had a one-run homer and a run-scoring double to lead Rancho Bernardo (12-11, 8-5).

San Pasqual 6, Escondido 1--Tenth-ranked Escondido had a chance to wrap up the league title with a victory. The Cougars (15-9, 11-2) play second-place San Marcos (13-10, 10-3) Friday for first place. Tony Goulart and Angel Soto had a two-run doubles in San Pasqual’s six-run fourth inning. Mike Corns (3-6) threw five-plus innings and had five strikeouts for San Pasqual (7-14-2, 6-7). Ernie Silva relieved Corns and worked out of a bases-loaded no-out jam in the sixth.

Ramona 5, Carlsbad 2--Mike Din was three for three with two RBIs, Eric Helton had two hits and an RBI and Ty Tomlinson drove in the winning runs for Ramona (7-16, 3-10). In a losing effort for Carlsbad (9-17, 3-10), sophomore Brian Scott pitched a two hitter.

Grossmont 3-A League

Grossmont 8, Monte Vista 3--For top-ranked Grossmont (21-2-1, 10-1), Mark Olson struck our four and didn’t allow a hit in two innings of relief, which included his striking out the side in the seventh. Olson picked up his eighth save of the season. For the Foothillers, Benny Craig was three for four, scored a run, drove in two runs and stole two bases, including home. Teammate Matt Jones, the designated hitter, was two for three, scored two runs and drove one in.

Helix 1, Granite Hills 0--With two out in the bottom of the eighth, Bobby Miller hit a one-run homer on the first pitch. Miller doubled earlier, Helix’s only other hit. Mario Sanchez struck out seven for Helix (16-11, 6-5). Cory Waterhouse struck out eight for Granite Hills (15-11, 5-6).

Grossmont 2-A League

El Capitan 15, El Cajon Valley 0--Matt LaChappa struck out 16 El Cajon batters to bring his season total to 87 for El Capitan (19-11, 7-4). Teammates Mike Lennon went three for five with a run scored and Sam Carlino was two for three with a three-run homer. With the victory, El Capitan clinches a tie for first and is guaranteed the No. 1 seed from the league.

Metro Conference

Hilltop 8, Southwest 3--Nate Dighera and Mark Magallanes hit three-run homers in the fifth inning for Hilltop (11-14, 5-9). Southwest finished its season at 6-15-1, 3-11.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Olympic Festival participant Kari Lyderson was the top qualifier in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events in the San Diego Section preliminaries at Mt. Carmel. The top three finishers all advanced to Saturday’s finals.

VOLLEYBALL

Patrick Henry d. Grossmont, 11-15, 15-13, 16-14, 15-12--In a 3-A first round playoff game, 13th-seeded Patrick Henry upset fourth-seeded Grossmont. Chris Welch and Zolton Villegas led Henry with 18 and 14 kills, respectively.
