La Jolla 8, University City 4--La Jolla (14-13, 5-7) got the go-ahead run when Tony Maggio singled with two outs in the fourth and three more runs when the ball got past the center fielder.

City Central League

Crawford 8, Hoover 0--Johnny Verdin struck out six and walked none in the first five innings, but he had to be replaced because he had already pitched five innings Tuesday. So Larry Haley came in, struck out two and walked one over the next 1 1/3 innings before losing the no-hit bid by allowing a single with two out in the top of the seventh. With the victory, Crawford (15-12, 9-3) earned the league’s No. 1 spot in the playoffs. Hoover finished 5-20, 1-11. Haley went two for four with three RBIs, and Sam Gagliano three for four with two stolen bases.

Madison 19, Lincoln 1--Madison (20-8, 9-3), which had 18 hits, was led by Brian Delgado (two for four, grand slam, seven RBIs), Brian Presley (three for five, three RBIs), Jerry Jones (three for three, three RBIs), Brad Tade (two for four, RBI), Robert Gross (three for five, one RBI) and James Liseski (two hits, three RBIs). Tobias Price had a homer for Lincoln 11-16, 4-8.

City Eastern League

Serra 5, Patrick Henry 2--Serra (12-16, 6-6) earned the league’s No. 2 playoff spot ahead of Patrick Henry (10-15-2, 5-7). Serra’s Ram Barrera went three for three and Jason Williams two for three with a homer.

Mira Mesa 7, Morse 4--Daryle Owen and Chris Moeller (two RBIs) both went three for four to lead No. 3 Mira Mesa (22-5, 11-1). Paul Masingale homered for Morse (11-13, 4-8).

City Harbor League

Clairemont 5, Marian 0--Catcher Charles Dibble went two for four with two RBIs, and Craig Goodwin pitched a three-hitter for Clairemont (11-15-1, 5-7). Goodwin struck out seven. Dibble hit a two-run double. Marian finished 5-19, 5-7.

St. Augustine 27, Christian 7--Memo Lopez drove in seven runs and Craig Da Luz six more for St. Augustine (25-5, 11-1).

Grossmont 2-A League

El Capitan 12, Valhalla 11--Setting the tone, El Capitan’s Sean Colson hit the first pitch over the left-field fence. Both teams scored five runs in the first. In the fifth, Sam Carlino drove in Mike Leone with the winning run. The turning point came in the fourth when Pat McMillin took the mound and shut down Valhalla (9-16-2, 4-8) for three innings. Matt LaChappa pitched the seventh and struck out three. Offensively for El Capitan, which clinched the league title at 20-11, 8-4, Ben Kindreich went two for three with four RBIs.

West Hills 7, El Cajon 4--Steve Gotowala had three hits to lead West Hills (12-13-1, 6-6). Mike Stadler and Tom Plascencia homered for El Cajon (12-14, 5-7).

Grossmont 3-A League

Grossmont 5, Granite Hills 4--Darrin Emery went two for three for No. 1 Grossmont (22-2-1, 11-1). Granite Hills is 15-12, 5-7.

Coastal League

LJCD 14, Army-Navy 5--Aaron Rubenson, Todd Graves, Brian Jones and Daniel Sparling each went two for four as LJCD (14-9, 9-3) tied for the league title. All had two RBIs and scored twice, except Jones, who drove in three, and Graves, who scored four runs.

Nonleague

Point Loma 11, Coronado 10--Jamie Crossley (two for five) knocked in Dan Maringer (four for four, two RBIs) with a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Pointers (12-16-1).

SOFTBALL

Grossmont 3-A League

Mt. Miguel 9, Helix 3--In its final game, Mt. Miguel (19-10, 8-4) earned a share of the league title with idle Monte Vista (18-9-1, 8-4). Helix finished 8-19, 1-11.

Granite Hills 1, Grossmont 0--Grossmont (22-8, 7-5) could have made it a three-way tie for first but fell to the Eagles (23-10-1, 6-6).

Grossmont 2-A League

El Capitan 1, Valhalla 0--El Capitan (17-8, 9-3) won the league title outright with the victory over Valhalla in 12 innings. Valhalla and idle Santana finished tied for second at 7-5.
