SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Joe Silva of Port Hueneme had not won an oval track main event at Ventura Raceway before this season, but he is currently on a mini roll, winning for the second time in four outings.

Silva claimed the 20-lap Mini Stock main event Friday night with a solid effort and a bit of the luck that seemed to escape him last year.

Richard Webster of Camarillo appeared comfortably on his way to victory with Silva a solid second when Webster’s Pinto blew a radiator hose on Lap 18, sending the car steaming into the infield and paving the way for Silva to go unchallenged the final two laps.

Jeff Drake of Fillmore was second, Kevin Parker of Ventura third and Gary Swenson of Ventura fourth.

Ray Marroquin of Santa Maria came from sixth place and won the 15-lap IMCA Modified main event for the second time this season. Michael Trogdon of Nipomo finished second and Herb Hill of Simi Valley was third.

Bill Bartels of Culver City won the 20-lap Street Stock main event, holding off hard-charging Tom Stephens of Ventura.
