Boys’ basketball divisional pairings have been finalized for the Northwest Valley Conference, and Chatsworth High has been elevated to the City Section 4-A Division.

At a meeting of conference administrators this week, Chatsworth was moved into the 4-A North Valley League, joining Taft, Cleveland and Kennedy. Granada Hills, formerly a North Valley team, was placed in the 3-A West Valley League, joining Reseda, San Fernando and El Camino Real.

The realignment was made in response to a City Section directive that required conferences to split into one 3-A and one 4-A league in order to achieve better playoff and competitive balance. Chatsworth was co-champion of the West Valley League this season and advanced to the 3-A semifinals.

Kennedy sought to be placed in the 3-A West Valley, but administrators voted down that request.

The conference administrators also will send a resolution to the Interscholastic Athletics Committee recommending that all Valley schools be placed in the 3-A Division or that all teams in the City Section be placed in one division, according to Reseda Coach Jeff Halpern, who attended the meeting and is a member of IAC.

The Valley Pac-8 Conference alignment remains unsettled. Sherman Oaks CES Athletic Director Mac Becker said conference administrators will meet before the June 30 deadline for realignment.
