New York Met outfielder Vince Coleman will sit out at least three games after suffering a strained tendon in his left leg Friday night. Coleman left the game during the seventh inning after stealing a club-record four bases, including his 600th.

Coleman has been on the disabled list twice this season. He was sidelined from April 10 to May 1 because of a strained left hamstring and from May 2 to May 28 because of an injured rib cage.

After being designated for release or assignment by the Montreal Expos on Saturday, Steve Lyons said his teammates still don’t know who he is because he played so little.

Signed May 8, shortly after being released by the Atlanta Braves, Lyons was cut to make a roster spot available for pitcher Sergio Valdez, who was called up from triple-A Indianapolis.

“The last time you reporters came to talk to me was when I first got here,” Lyons joked. “I’m in a better situation getting released, because this lack of playing time has been wearing on me. It’s not a good feeling. I don’t think I was treated fairly. I can’t imagine playing almost two months and starting only one game and getting just 27 at-bats.”

Lyons, who batted .148 with no homers and two RBIs, is collecting the remainder of his $650,000 salary from the Braves.

When Kevin Brown earned his 11th victory Thursday in what was his 16th start of the season, it gave him the best start by a pitcher in Texas Ranger history. Rick Honeycutt won his 11th game in his 17th start in 1983.

Brown has a good chance to become the franchise’s second 20-game winner. The only Ranger to win 20 games is Ferguson Jenkins, who won 25 in 1974.

Brown, 27, has given up only one home run, to the Baltimore Orioles’ Sam Horn, in 122 2/3 innings, the best ratio in the American League.
