Tiger Woods of Cypress shot a four-under-par 68 and leads the ProGear San Antonio Shootout junior golf tournament after one round at San Antonio (Tex.) Country Club.

Woods was even on the front nine holes, then shot a four-under 32 on the back nine and is a stroke ahead of Marcus Jones of Graham, Tex.

Three boys’ teams from the Balboa Bay Volleyball Club swept their matches in pool play at the Junior Olympic Championships in Albuquerque.

The 18-and-under blue team defeated Delaware Valley, 15-8, 15-9; and Second City of Chicago, 15-7, 15-0. The 16-and-under blue team beat Willow Pond Whips of Pennsylvania, 15-11, 17-15; Attack of North Carolina, 15-10, 15-4, and Straight Down of Santa Barbara, 15-6, 16-7. The 14-and-under blue team beat Great Lakes, 15-4, 15-4; and Kokoro Blue of Huntington Beach, 15-1, 15-3.

Cypress College baseball player Monte Jones has signed a letter of intent with Iowa State. Jones, a catcher from Tustin High School, batted .298 for Cypress in 1991. He sat out last season as a redshirt after losing his eligibility.
