BUENA PARK : City Hall Workers Start New Schedule

Share

Employees at City Hall and other city departments have started to work nine hours a day instead of eight and will soon have every other Friday off as part of an effort to cut down on peak-hour traffic and comply with air quality standards.

The move is a result of new Air Quality Management District demands to reduce the number of workers on the streets during peak traffic hours by 10%.

Employers with more than 100 workers, in private or public sectors, must comply.

Some departments have already started the new schedule, and all city employees, except police and fire department workers, will switch over by Aug. 3.

Employees will work either from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. or from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will have every other Friday off, closing City Hall and the affected departments.

Residents will receive the new city hours of operation in their water bills this month.

Police and firefighters will continue normal hours of operation, and there will be some exceptions for building inspectors or others who might have to work on some of the closed Fridays to meet developers’ deadlines, said Wes Morgan, recreation, parks and community services director.
