BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Randolph Joins Parade to Disabled List

Second baseman Willie Randolph joined seven other New York Mets on the disabled list Wednesday when his left wrist was broken when hit by a pitch from Bob Walk during the seventh inning of a 7-6, 10-inning loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Randolph, 38, who signed with the Mets as a free agent in the off-season, will miss between four and six weeks, meaning that his season and his career may be finished.
“I don’t feel I’m done,” he said. “I’m a player and can still help a team. I don’t know what the Mets’ plans are, but I’d love to continue to help them.”
Randolph joined outfielders Bobby Bonilla (broken rib) and Howard Johnson (broken wrist), infielders Dave Magadan (broken wrist) and Kevin Elster (shoulder injury), and pitchers Bret Saberhagen (finger injury), Paul Gibson (shoulder injury) and Steve Rosenberg (rotator cuff injury) on the sidelines.
Jose Canseco, criticized by his Oakland Athletic teammates and bosses for leaving the stadium after being removed from Monday night’s game because of a sore back, says he will apologize but thinks his critics jumped the gun.
“I do owe the team an apology and I will apologize,” said Canseco, who added that his reason for leaving was “very personal.”
“I wasn’t given an opportunity to have my side of the story heard.”
