PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Holdout Over, so Moss Is Activated

Share

The Raiders activated linebacker Winston Moss, who had ended his holdout earlier this week. Moss had not counted toward the roster limit of 60 because he was given exemption status. But in order to use him today in the exhibition finale against the Houston Oilers, the Raiders had to give up the exemption.

That meant dropping somebody and receiver-kick returner Stacey Simmons was cut for the second time in a week. Simmons had been waived Tuesday, then re-signed Thursday.

The Astros weren’t the only Houston team sent packing because of last week’s Republican national convention at the Astrodome. The Oilers also spent August on the road.

They played the Cowboys twice, in Dallas and Tokyo, and also played in Detroit and New Orleans.

If the Oilers win today, they will have completed their fourth unbeaten exhibition season.
