OUTLOOK

Servite had its first winning season last year since running back Derek Brown led the Friars to a 10-3 record and their last playoff berth in 1988. Look for Servite to seriously contend for the Sunset League title after struggling in the Angelus League with a 2-10 record under Toner the past three seasons. “For the first time since I came back here in 1989, I feel we have the talent comparable to some of our teams in the early ‘80s,” Toner said. Hannah, who started against Santa Margarita last year when quarterback Josh Nelson was “indisposed,” according to Toner, will be the team’s quarterback. Jones was the Angelus League’s long jump champion. Servite opens the season against two Southern Section divisional champions--Mater Dei and Valencia--on Sept. 11 and 18 at Cal State Fullerton.
