PLNC Upsets Southwest State
Point Loma Nazarene, ranked 18th in the NAIA women’s volleyball preseason poll, had little trouble upsetting No. 9 Southwest State University of Minnesota in a nonconference match Tuesday at Golden Gym.
The Crusaders (3-3) swept, 15-1, 15-5, 15-11, with Roberta Smith collecting 10 kills. Southwest State fell to 6-2.
SOCCER
The University of San Diego men’s team moved to 2-0 with a 2-1 victory over Cal State Fullerton. Chugger Adair and Doug Barry scored for the Toreros.
The San Diego State women’s team lost its opener, 3-0, to Santa Clara. Christina DiGiacomo scored two goals for the Broncos (3-0).
Socker goalie Victor Nogueira and defender Terry Woodberry have been named to the U.S. Five-A-Side Indoor World Cup team. The Indoor World Cup will be held in Hong Kong beginning Nov. 11. Also named to the squad were former Sockers George Fernandez, Jim Gabarra and Otto Orf.
