PREP PREVIEW ’92 / GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY : SIX TEAMS TO WATCH : ORANGE LUTHERAN

Share

Coach: Jonathan Zimmerman (fifth year).

1991: Third in CIF State Division IV, Southern Section Division IV runner-up, Olympic League champion.

Key returners: Barbara Boisvert, So., third at the State meet and league champion; Laurie Juranek, So., third at league finals; Amber Parkinson, Sr., fourth at State and second at league finals.

Key newcomers: Mandy Dowding, Fr.; Meg Ferrell, So.; Liz Pappas, Fr., Alexa Washburn, Jr.

Outlook: The key to Orange Lutheran’s success lies in the fragile shinbones of Parkinson, who is recovering from stress fractures in both legs. When healthy, Parkinson has been tough to beat. She was fourth at State in the 3,200 meters in 1991, running a county-leading 10:38.80. She did not compete last track season. Boisvert emerged as a force on the track last spring, running PRs of 2:11.23 for 800 and 5:00.2 for 1,600. She ran the rugged course at Mt. San Antonio College in 18:44 last season. Like Parkinson, Washburn is trying to return from injury.
