SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Running back Reggie Alvarez rushed for 116 yards and scored Century’s only touchdown as the Centurions came back in the second half to tie Los Amigos, 7-7, at Santa Ana Stadium.

Alvarez caught a 15-yard pass from quarterback Rick Odoardi with 7:47 left in the third quarter. The tying touchdown was set up when Alvarez recovered a Los Amigos fumble at the Lobo 36-yard line, one of three Los Amigos turnovers in the game.

Los Amigos (1-0-1) had a chance to break the tie late in the game, driving from its 29-yard line to the Century 18, but Chong Vang missed a 33-yard field goal with 2:06 left to play.

Century (0-1-1) also had trouble with its kicking game. Adaid Aguilar missed field-goal attempts of 22, 26 and 37 yards.

“I’m glad we at least tied them,” Century Coach Bill Brown said. “We had good field position the whole game but couldn’t take advantage. We just made too many bonehead mistakes.”

One of those mistakes resulted in Los Amigos’ only touchdown. Defensive lineman Nick Peres picked up a Century fumble with 9:29 left in the first half and returned it 76 yards.

The Centurion defense kept Los Amigos off-balance throughout the game, sacking quarterback Ape Tuato four times for a loss of 54 yards. The Lobos gained only 87 net yards.
