Rio Mesa 35, Santa Clara 0--Junior running back Junior Liufau ran for 195 yards and two touchdowns to lead the host Spartans.
Liufau scored from two yards on Rio Mesa’s first possession and then went 51 yards to cap an 88-yard drive to open the second half.
The Spartans (1-2) totaled 444 yards rushing and the defense forced three turnovers and held Santa Clara (1-2) to 146 yards.
David Belger, 10 carries for 121 yards, scored from 46 yards, and 315-pound running back James Jones (27 yards in four carries) scored from the one.
