SOUTHERN SECTION FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Loyola Overwhelms St. Francis, 42-0

St. Francis High had Chris McAlister back on the field, but it didn’t matter. Nothing could have helped the Golden Knights.

They lost, 42-0, to Loyola in a nonleague football game Saturday night at Glendale High.

McAlister, a sophomore tailback who missed last week’s game because of questions surrounding his eligibility, carried seven times and lost 10 yards.

But the Golden Knights (2-1) didn’t do much blocking. They were blown off the line of scrimmage by Loyola (3-0), which had 10 tackles for losses.

St. Francis quarterback Rudy Martinez completed three of seven passes for 23 yards before he was sacked and suffered a separated right shoulder late in the first half. Coach Andy Boynton said Martinez probably will be out for the year. Browder Morrisey played quarterback in the second half, completing two of four for 16 yards.

Loyola, ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section’s Division I, moved the ball at will. Matt Gocke rushed 10 times for 71 yards, and Jerome Porter carried eight times for 76 yards and a touchdown.

Quarterback Clelio Boccato completed four of 10 for 124 yards and three touchdowns.

The Golden Knights’ leading rusher was Jay D. Walters, who gained 56 yards in 12 carries.
