The Pasadena City College football team, ranked No. 5 in the state by the JC Athletic Bureau, will try to remain unbeaten when they play host to Fullerton College Saturday night.

Pasadena (3-0) defeated Rancho Santiago, 35-13, on Saturday. It was the Lancers third consecutive road victory.

Tracy McBride, a former standout from Blair High, gained 75 yards in 18 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Lancers, who are averaging 360 yards a game and giving up 226.3.

Quarterback Edward Hervey completed 10 of 14 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 83 yards in 10 carries.

Mitsue Tomoyasu of the Cal Poly Pomona women’s volleyball team was selected most valuable player of the Cal State Los Angeles tournament after she led the Broncos to the championship.

Tomoyasu, an outside hitter, had 40 kills during the two-day tournament last weekend.

Pomona, ranked 15th in Division II, improved to 15-3.

Marv Goux, an assistant coach with the Rams, will be the featured speaker Friday at the Pasadena Quarterbacks Club luncheon at Brookside Country Club.

The club, in its 48th year, is open to all with annual dues of $30. Lunch is $10 for members and $12 for guests.

The San Gabriel Volleyball Club will hold tryouts for boys’ teams in three divisions tonight at 7 at Pasadena City College.

Boys 14 and under, 16 and under and 18 and under are eligible to participate in the 2 1/2-month program, which is under the auspices of the United States Volleyball Assn.

The 11th annual After-Stroke Athletic Games will be held Oct. 9 in Glendora.

The event, partially sponsored by the Organization for After-Stroke Resources, will include competition in horseshoes, bowling, ringball, target toss, bocce ball and shuffleboard. There will also be a pentathlon involving five events.

A benefit golf tournament sponsored by the Arcadia Rotary Club will be held Oct. 14 at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino.

The $100 entry fee includes registration, green fees, cart, continental breakfast, lunch and dinner. Proceeds will be donated to the Lincoln Training Center, a nonprofit organization that provides work with pay for developmentally disabled adults in the San Gabriel Valley.

Bonita High will sponsor a sports cards and sports memorabilia show Oct. 24 at the school gymnasium.

The show, which will benefit the Bearcat football program, will feature appearances by 1946 Heisman Trophy winner Glenn Davis, who graduated from Bonita in 1939, former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Frank Pastore, who graduated from Damien High, and former major league pitcher Clyde Wright.

The city of Rosemead begins registration for its adult co-ed slo-pitch softball program Oct. 12.

Registration will continue through Oct. 28 for leagues that begin play Nov. 8. Men’s league games will be played Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Co-ed games will be Sunday afternoons.
