ROUNDUP : CSUN Rolls to 19th Home Soccer Win in a Row

Senior forward Danny Daniels scored one goal and assisted on three others as Cal State Northridge defeated Loyola Marymount, 5-0, in a nonconference college soccer match Friday at North Campus Stadium.

The victory was the 19th in a row at home for the Matadors (6-3), who are unbeaten in 22 straight matches on their home pitch.

Armando Valdivia wasted no time in giving CSUN the lead, putting home a pass from Daniels 3 minutes 5 seconds into the match. Dominic Zapata added an unassisted goal at 8:18 for a 2-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Daniels assisted on goals by Adolfo Perez and Campbell Ilfrey and added a penalty kick to complete his most productive match of the year.

Matador goalkeeper Travis Harding needed to make only two saves as CSUN outshot Loyola Marymount (2-6-2), 23-9.

In another men’s soccer match:

Glendale 4, Moorpark 2--Vince Proja and Marc Cargnel scored in the second half for Moorpark (2-7, 1-1) in a Western State Conference match at Glendale.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 2, Univ. of San Diego 0--Freshmen Margaret Vestel and Joey Allard each scored a goal in overtime to propel Cal Lutheran to its initial victory over an NCAA Division I team.

Vestel scored unassisted in the fifth minute of the first overtime period and Allard added a goal 10 minutes into the second overtime period on an assist from freshman Jodi Larson.

The Regals (7-3) twice had chances to win the game in regulation, but breakaway runs by Jill Gallegos and Allard were stymied by the San Diego defense.

Sophomore goalkeeper Joann Wanderwall made 15 saves as the Regals recorded their fourth victory in a row.

Moorpark 2, Long Beach City 0--Tina Johann and Rachel Gagliano of visiting Moorpark each scored a goal in the second half of the nonconference match.

Johann’s goal came on a free kick at the 62-minute mark, and Gagliano scored 12 minutes later on a assist from Maureen O’Hare.

The victory snapped a three-match winless streak (0-2-1) for Moorpark (5-3-4), the defending state junior college champion.

WOMEN’S CROSS-COUNTRY

Bakersfield invitational--The Antelope Valley College women’s team won an invitational for the first time in school history in the meet at Hart Park.

Freshman Teresa Santana and sophomore Holly Ludwig finished sixth and eighth, respectively, as Antelope Valley totaled 60 points, 14 ahead of Foothill Conference rival Rio Hondo.

Santana timed 18 minutes 34 seconds over the 5,000-meter course and Ludwig clocked 18:48.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

CS Northridge d. CS Sacramento, 13-15, 15-6, 15-8, 15-9--Senior middle blocker Nany Nicholls had a match-high 16 kills and a .467 hitting percentage to lead Northridge to a comeback win in the nonconference match at home.

Senior outside hitter Dawn Krenik broke out of a hitting slump with nine kills and a .318 hitting percentage for the Matadors (11-6).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

L.A. Baptist d. Paraclete, 15-5, 15-5, 15-1--L.A. Baptist’s bus broke down on the way to the match at Paraclete, but it did not seem to affect the undefeated Knights’ play in the nonleague match.

Sarah Rameson had a match-high 15 kills for L.A. Baptist (6-0), and Jill De Rutter added 14 assists for the third-ranked team in Southern Section Division V.
