USD Wins Title in Soccer Tournament

The University of San Diego was awarded the championship of the Santa Clara/Met Life Classic despite finishing with a 1-1 record.
On Sunday, the Toreros rampaged Michigan State, 4-0. Chuggar Adair scored twice and backup goalie Scott Garlick registered his team’s first shutout of the season as Michigan State fell to 6-3-1.
The Toreros, 5-3 losers to Neveda-Las Vegas Friday, won the tournament on goal differential as all four teams finished at 1-1. The Toreros (7-3) finished with a plus-2 goal differential to second-place Santa Clara’s plus-1.
RUNNING
Matt Clayton of San Diego finished seventh in the Twin Cities Marathon in 2 hours 18 minutes 10 seconds. David Mungai of Laramie, Wyo., won the Minneapolis event in 2:15.33.
